Could You Sell Online Courses Even If You’re Still In High School Or Elementary?
According to an Industry Reporting Company, Valuates Report, the global online K-12 education market has a market size of US$ 7.984 billion as of 2021 and is projected to reach US$ 12.93 billion by 2028 with a CAGR of 8.3%.
As you can see, there is good money to be made from teaching kids even if only online. Combine this with the likes of Ryan Kaji who as of 2022 is just a 10 year old kid doing toy unboxing videos in YouTube yet is a multimillionaire and you can see the potential mix.
What if a child teaches school lessons instead of doing toy unboxing videos which so many young YouTubers are already doing and hence is already a very competitive market? Incidentally, I found a video from Ryan doing exactly this:
"Walking Water Science Experiments for Kids!!!" This is the title of the video and it has over 11 million views! This is just one of Ryan’s learning content besides toy unboxing videos. This proves there is a big market for this kind of digital product.
ARE THERE MANY CHILDREN GROWING UP WITH “ELEARNING?”
Just what is “ELearning?” The online Oxford Language Dictionary defines it as: “Learning conducted via electronic media, typically on the internet.” For example, the educational entertainment apps we see online, these are considered elearning apps.
According to the website efront, an elearning site, online elearning took off somewhere in the 2000s when companies began training their employees using the internet. By then, the improved internet speeds and its wide adaption have made online learning very accessible.
I don’t think there is a further need to describe what online elearning is. For example, there are many universities all over the world today who also offer online courses. This includes the most reputable universities such as Harvard of the USA and their global counterparts.
Besides universities, there are also specialized schools which teach children special courses not normally taught in school such as Finger Maths, Kumon, Specialized Languages, and many others. Many of these courses are already being taught online to young people.
But imagine if a student in one of these specialized courses teach other students/children what they have learned, wouldn’t they not only recoup the cost of their education but also make a profit?
ARE YOU AS A PARENT/GUARDIAN OR A CHILD IN A BEST POSITION TO TEACH OTHER CHILDREN?
As a student/child, especially as a slow learner, aren’t you the most knowledgeable person who knows what is the stumbling block to learning a particular course or subject? Aren’t you the actual one who actually experienced this?
As a parent or guardian of a student/child, aren’t you the most knowledgeable person who knows what is the most frustrating part of teaching a student/child? Aren’t you the one the child/student turns to for the answer to their school course problems?
You might say that the job of teaching a student/child rests with the school and its teachers, but suppose if the school and the teachers are not effective in teaching the student/child? Isn’t the student/child and parent/guardian in the best position to know this?
Documenting not only how you the student answered a school problem and how you as the parent/guardian helped them is not enough, you could also document the entire process of learning: from the school problem, answering and up to the issue with school learning itself.
Imagine if all the students at the same grade level in the school the student is attending in watches you on a regular basis because they can relate to you. Imagine if this is repeated on a per semester basis on other students from other schools. Your client base can be big.
ARE YOU AS CHILD/STUDENT CAPABLE OF EARNING FROM ONLINE COURSE TEACHING?
If you are a very young child, then I suggest that you watch a few videos on YouTube using the search term: “youngest teachers”, just so that you have proof that even very young children can do it, of course with help from your parents/guardian acting as videographers.
Don’t worry about not being able to follow a script if one is created for you. Children have a very distinct advantage to adults when it comes to presentation: They actually win points for showing naturalness and spontaneity.
This is because society is in general very forgiving of young children and allows them to make small mistakes and might even find it cute at times. This must be the reason why Ryan has been able to amass huge YouTube subscriber numbers.
Another thing to consider is that the generation of children today like you have grown up with electronics and digital media and are not particularly scared of being seen online. You might even crave it. This is the reason why for example, many US children want to be YouTubers.
Instead of an adult talking about their jobs and what they do, you as the student can talk about your student life and the various school assignments, activities and other things associated with school which other students can relate to. You can actually earn from your school lessons.
ARE YOU AS PARENT/GUARDIAN CAPABLE OF EARNING FROM ONLINE COURSE TEACHING?
Of course! Let’s face it, it’s the parent or the guardian who actually answers or guides their child into answering the school assignments and problems given by the school. This is especially true when the child is still very small and hasn’t fully developed their learning skills.
Your market might not be only students/children but actual parents/guardians themselves. You could talk about why students fail to learn a certain lesson or subject from a parent’s/guardian’s perspective.
You are also adult/old enough to learn about blogging, editing YouTube videos and even creating websites and computer programming. You are the best person to maintain a blog, website or a YouTube channel as compared to your child/student.
You blog, website or YouTube channel could be a hub not only for children/students but for parents/guardians as well. In your hub, you could compile all the school lessons that you have answered as well any other digital materials that you have created for a parent/guardian/child.
You can even create a relationship with different schools such that they assist you and you assist them in a mutually beneficial relationship. For example, the school can promote your online hub as an afterschool learning tool for their students.
ARE YOU AS A TEACHER CAPABLE OF EARNING FROM ONLINE COURSE TEACHING?
Do you know famous American astrophysicist: Neil deGrasse Tyson? How about Sabine Hossenfelder: the German physicist? These two people are two famous people in the academic circle who have become online education influencers in their own right.
There are actual professors and teachers who post their lessons online not only to educate children but also to earn from their YouTube videos, blogs or website. And this is very helpful because there are students who find it hard to learn on a school setting.
By posting their school lessons online, teachers and professors also get the chance to interact more with the children/students as well as their parents/guardians. This provides them with an opportunity to not only improve their school lessons but their audience.
By doing the same, you as a teacher might even improve your career once you get known as a specialist in certain subject matters. For example, you might be very good at plants and who knows a plant related company might discover you courtesy of your online media content.
Also, the school lessons that you prepare not only earns you a salary as a teacher but as an online content creator as well. It’s like your benefitting twice by doing the same one work which is preparing school lessons.
ARE YOU CAPABLE OF TEACHING MORE?
You are also not restricted to teaching school lessons and activities. You could also teach other things such as life lessons. For example, a child/student can talk about the issue of Bullying and how to tackle it.
As a high schooler you can talk about Peer Pressure and how to tackle it. You can also talk about the lighter side of being a high schooler like school crushes and childhood romance and how to tackle them.
You can be a college student and talk about how it is to juggle a part-time job and studying. You might talk about more mature issues like how the cost of a college degree has skyrocketed.
Of course you don’t neglect teaching about how to answer school lessons but you get to also talk about and try to provide answer for the social issues not normally taught in schools. Lastly, let me direct you to the YouTube Channel of: The Organic Chemistry Tutor.
He teaches short lessons about common school science problems and is very successful at it. He has over 5.54 million subscribers and his videos get hundred thousands if not over a million views. He is proof that the teaching of common school lessons can be profitable.
CONCLUSION
Online learning at all age levels: from K-12, university and even job levels are growing at a very fast pace. In fact, there are a lot of students/children who learn more from online learning than they do at school.
If you are a child/student, parent/guardian or a professional already, it might be time to dig up you old school lessons, you could post them online and they might just yet earn you money because they are the answers students are looking for.
You might even become famous and moneyed because of this.
