Vivziepop YouTube Channel
In case you are not a prolific watcher of YouTube, or not a fan of animation, then you might not have any knowledge of Vivienne Medrano or her more popular name: Vivziepop. But she is special in a very good sense.
She I believe is one of only a handful of animators who were able to get an animated television series contract based off her YouTube animation channel. If you don’t know how important this is, then consider this:
Every year, many television pilots are made by independent and big name companies in the hopes that their video series would be picked up by television, cable or streaming companies to be made into full-fledged television series.
Of the hundreds and even thousands of these television pilots, only a handful are selected. This is how difficult it is for your video series to get into television. There is simply an oversupply of video makers but only a handful of buyers.
What makes Vivziepop’s story even more special is that the move to get her animated series didn’t really come from her, but from her fans who petitioned that her animated series be turned to an animated television series.
And one media company listened to her fans, the production company A24 picked up her animated series to be turned into a television animated series. Pretty impressive right? Especially considering that Vivziepop is only 29 years.
The Vivziepop YouTube Channel
Vivziepop’s YouTube channel is one of the most popular channels in terms of animation videos. As of May 7, 2021, the channel already has almost 600 million views with 5.3 million subscribers. These numbers easily show that the channel is indeed popular.
The channel mainly shows animations or topics about animation. It is interesting to note that although the theme of the animation stories is pretty much dark humor, the drawings of the animation are so cute or beautiful (whatever word you prefer) that most watchers will be mesmerized with the series.
Don’t let the drawings of the animation fool you (if you haven’t still been), the theme of the animation story are not only dark humor but also contains sensitive subjects. For example, by depicting characters of the religious kind, the channel would definitely draw the ire of religious extremists.
There is also the depiction of relationships. There are stories that depict male to male character relationships which again could draw the ire of people who think that the only relationship that is right are male to female relationships.
Speaking of females, the show has extreme female personalities that might offend the feminists. From the way they are drawn to the way their characters are shown, the channel is sure to offend some if not, many.
And what about violence? Vivziepop never skimps on it. From guns to gore, the channel’s animations has it. It’s clear that the channel is definitely catering to a much more mature or mature minded audience.
The Audience of Vivziepop
The drawings of Vivziepop may be cute that children and people who like cute things would surely be enamored by her drawings. But as soon as you watch the video, it is clear that the stories are not entirely made up to please children.
I would imagine that teenagers would be the starting point or age of Vivziepop’s audience. The story themes and characters would surely appeal particularly to people of this age range. In fact, it is clear from the songs in the videos to the merchandise that Vivziepop is selling, that she is catering to the young people.
For example she sells plushies patterned after the characters she invented and drawn:
YouTube Video: HAZBIN PLUSHIES ARE HERE (NOT FOR KIDS)
As the title suggests: Not For Kids. Although the plushies are cute, it is clear that they are marketed for adults too. In short, Vivziepop’s drawings appeal to people who want cute but somewhat adult themed characters.
This may be the reason why Vivziepop’s animated cartoons are so popular, they are cartoons that are somewhere in between children and adult’s taste. By doing so, Vivziepop appeals to both age groups.
Who is Vivziepop?
You can easily search for this information online, but I’ll save you some time. As I have previously stated, Vivziepop’s actual name is Vivienne Medrano and she is 29 years old as of May 2021.
She is a female and is an American who lives in Maryland, USA. She graduated with a degree in the School of Visual Arts (SVA). She is also Salvadoran-American. You can easily get more information about her by Googling the search keyword: “vivziepop”.
Why bother with Vivziepop?
As mentioned already, she is special in that she is one of only a handful of animators who’s animated YouTube videos have been picked up to become a television series. This is the dream of most animators.
But let’s get to something more interesting than the television series she bagged. According to various sources online, she is worth between $720 thousand to $2 million. Considering that her YouTube channel started in almost in 2013, she earns about more than $110 thousand a year.
This amount is way higher than the minimum wage in America. So if you are an aspiring YouTube animator, she could be a good example for you to follow. Sure, there are other animation channels in YouTube, but it is clear that she is one of the best.
She is also proof that you could make a good living by being an animator who produces cartoon content in YouTube. Imagine if her success was duplicated by a person who lives in a less developed country like those in Asia or Africa.
The person living in a less developed country who have duplicated her success would even live a better life. This is because the income of Vivziepop once converted to the currency of a less develop country, would make anyone a very rich person.
How Does VivziePop Earn Money?
Like most YouTubers, Vivziepop earns from ad revenue. She also earns money via Patreon and sells merchandise like caps, t-shirts, pins, pillows, plushies and so on. It is clear that she has fully taken advantage of the popularity of her cartoon characters.
Then there is the television series which promises more fame and financial gain for Vivziepop. Since her products are digital content, there is a huge opportunity for her to spread her products/cartoons to all parts of the world.
But Can You Emulate Vivziepop?
There are many animators who have YouTube channels and do their own animation by themselves. There are cases where the animators use the help of other animators and voice talents to produce their videos.
I don’t know if Vivziepop started her channel all by herself. But what is clear is that in her videos she had help from other animators as well as voice talents. Even one of her videos shows the people who help her create her animation videos.
Judging from her impressive animation videos, these videos take a long time to complete and are hard to do. Although you can create similar videos with the same quality, it is highly unlikely that you can continue creating videos by yourself only.
From The Perspective Of People From Less Developed Countries
As previously stated, the earnings of Vivziepop could make a person in a less developed country very rich. Thus, for these people, copying Vivziepop is a good gamble. Several animators and voice talents can team up together to form some sort of company that produces YouTube animation videos.
This company would be composed of professionals who due to the possible financial gains of the business (YouTube animation video creation) would be willing to work full-time animating and voice acting.
It is important to note that the primary investment of these people would be their time and not money. Since YouTube videos are digital products, they can be made cheaply if the animators are willing to forgo high salaries.
But as stated already, if animators from less developed countries are able to duplicate Vivziepop’s success, they could live a comfortable life with their YouTube video earnings since as explained before, the exchange rate works in their favor.
From The Perspective Of A Person From A First World Country
As Vivziepop has proven, even an animator in a first world country such as America, could make a good living creating YouTube animation videos. In fact, I have seen other animators from such countries like Canada and Australia making good money precisely doing this.
Of course it is highly recommended that you set up a Patreon account as you cannot rely solely on ad income. With a Patreon account, you can get supporters from all around the world and not only from first world countries.
From The Perspective Of A Businessperson
It is now the age of freelancing and freelancers now number in the millions. A good animator who is also a good businessman could use freelancers from all around the world who will animate or voice act for a reasonable rate.
A person from a first world country can start a YouTube animation channel and pay for the services of animators from less developed countries who are more affordable than animators from first world countries.
Of course there is the issue that if the supporters of this channel finds out that the person who started the YouTube channel uses animators from less developed countries, they would not support anymore the channel.
This is because there is the romanticized image of the indie artist who makes all their art by themselves. It might be a silly thing, but this way of thinking persists for many. Many people still think that freelancers from less developed countries are exploited by their first world customers or boss.
From The Perspective Of An International Team
There may be a solution to the previously mentioned perspective. Instead of viewing freelancers as contractors who must be paid as low as one can, they could be treated as partners.
We would use the person from the first world country who sets up a YouTube animation channel as the example again. But this time, the freelancers from developed countries are treated as partners or part of a team rather than as contractors.
This could be a better business setup. No one can accuse the YouTube owner of exploiting freelancers from less developed nations. Rather, the image of an international indie YouTube channel is solidified.
The risk is shared too. The persons from the first world and less developed countries gets to share both the gains and losses of the channel. So it is entirely possible and even good for people from first and less developed countries to work together.
Conclusion
Vivziepop is special in that she is one of only a handful of YouTube video creators to have bagged a television series contract. Not only this, she also proves that you could make a good living creating YouTube animation videos.
People living in less developed countries would surely benefit from following her example. Her earnings once converted to the local currency could support a small company in a less developed country. But everyone could follow her example and even cooperate together to duplicate her success.
