Being Comfortable During Events
Events can take a long time from start to finish. There are events where you have to listen to speakers for hours even the whole day or even for a span of several days. The longer the event is the more you get stressed out even if you listen to the speakers while sitting in the chair. Sitting in a chair can get very uncomfortable after a while.
The chair is a simple object but it is one or the most used object by participants and audiences during events. The event industry however has not given much attention to chairs. There are those that supply ergonomic and well cushioned chairs but that is all about it.
Let us take a look at how participants normally settle themselves at events. I would concentrate on speaking and viewing events because they are the events where most audiences sit on chairs to watch the participants perform on stage.
The audiences enter the event area and sit on the chairs either randomly or according to a predetermined seating arrangement mostly determined by the price of the admission pass. Those who pay the highest admission pass price get the best view of the stage and if applicable the most comfortable chairs.
The event then begins and the participants perform their act or presentation while the audience watches. Events generally finish at a minimum of one hour or if it is longer there is a break for a few minutes before the act or presentation continues. If refreshments are available they are usually partaken by the audience. Some smoke. Others walk around to relax their legs which are starting to cramp by now.
Even if there is a few minutes of break for every hour of the act or presentation eventually the audience or even the participant starts to feel the stress of immobility. Your legs start to cramp, the bum area starts to get sore, the back begins to ache and so on. This discomfort can be very crucial and there are audiences who would leave even while the presentation is ongoing just to stretch and relax themselves.
I have also been to events where the air conditioning system is not properly working or managed that it becomes so chilly that it is so uncomfortable. The reverse is also true. I have been to events where the temperature is so warm that you are really sweating while you are watching the event that this is also so uncomfortable and awkward because of sweat stains.
Event organisers and event facility owners need to remember that their audience is almost a captive market while the event is going on and they can use this time to market products or services while they are watching the presentation.
If they can offer products and services that makes the audience more comfortable during events like massages and temperature control either manual or mechanical they can make additional income. In Asia there are venues where in the men’s toilet there are men who massage you because you are stressed from the event. They do this while you piss in exchange for change money.
Conclusion
Advertising, Products and Services for potential customers in seminars and conferences are already happening just not in single individual level proportions yet. It would not be long now before companies would discover this relatively untapped market yet because companies are still focusing on the main stage of these places.
