Custom Designed Red Bricks

The popular clothing fashion label Supreme sold bricks etched with the fashion brand’s logo in 2016. It was a much sought after fashion product. Customers of the fashion brand lined up for hours just to be able to buy this item sold at $30.00 by Supreme.

Rather than question the motive why a popular clothing company decided to sell red bricks, we should think about the doors which this company opened up for the brick industry. Usually, red bricks are sold with the sole purpose of being used as construction materials.

But the fashion company Supreme has shown us that red bricks and perhaps other construction materials can also serve as fashion objects. And why not? If sports car companies like Ferrari can name perfumes after their car company brand, surely the same can be done with other objects.

And from the collectability value of these Supreme bricks that are now being sold for more than a thousand dollars now in such sites as eBay, Supreme has tapped a market that the construction industry has not yet considered.

WOULD YOU PAY FOR RED BRICKS THAT HAVE LOGOS ON IT?

If we are talking about the case of the fashion clothing company, Supreme, it is apparent that they would. But Supreme is an extreme case, this fashion company has almost perfected the marketing art or strategy of making an object highly desirable by marketing its exclusivity.

There is no doubt that the customers of Supreme who bought these red bricks etched with the company’s logo bought it because they primarily want to capitalize on the exclusivity appeal of these red bricks.

If you plan to mass produce red bricks etched with a certain design or logo, you cannot follow the Supreme example of marketing exclusivity. The competitors of Supreme can do the same thing and I’m sure that there would be fashion conscious people or investors who would buy it.

Picture this, if the prominent and famous fashion labels would also sell their own red bricks, I’m sure there would be collectors out there who would come running to collect these red bricks from each of these fashion companies.

But not only fashion companies, other companies who’s brand name are also popular like the companies who make expensive sports cars could also sell their red bricks etched with their logo or design.

WHAT MATTERS IN THE END

What matters in the end is not the red bricks themselves, but the etched logo on these red bricks. These same etched logo can be put on concrete blocks and the result would also be likely the same.

What do you think would happen if a company like Apple decided to adorn a part of their brick and mortar stores with red bricks etched with the Apple logo or name? I’m sure that the part of the building were this red brick with the Apple logo or name would be a desirable place to see for Apple fans.

Think about it, a famous clothing company like Gucci for example using red bricks or other construction materials with their company’s logo or name in it in the construction of their brick and mortar stores.

Wouldn’t these red bricks become a highly desirable part of the company’s brand imaging that can also be marketed? How about this? Imagine red bricks with etchings of a flower or a plant. These red bricks could be placed at strategic parts of walls that cover areas containing plants.

These decorated red bricks are a break from the bland appeal of a wall composed purely of plain red bricks. How about red bricks with etched logos or designs of food? Like a coffee mug and a plate?

These kinds of red bricks can be good to place on the walls of structures that are being used to serve food like restaurants, cafes, bars and food courts. The designs on these red bricks would easily signify to any people who see them that food is available at these places.

As can be seen, the etched logos or designs in these red bricks can instantly improve the message that the owners of these structures being lined by these red bricks are trying to convey to their customers.

Any manufacturer of these red bricks can use it as a selling point to sell their red bricks which have etched logos or designs in them. According to the website of home guide, red bricks cost less than a dollar each.

Of course, there are even more discounts when they are bought in bulk. As can be seen, there is a lot of room to offer your customers more expensive red bricks. You could add a few cents on each red brick when you sell them with custom logos or designs.

It is even better if after you have created a design for one client, you could offer the same design to another client without having to create the design on the red brick again. As time passes, you could offer more and more designs without having to start from scratch again.

GOOD FOR SMALL BRICK MAKING BUSINESSES AND/OR ARTISTS

Since red bricks with specific designs are not likely to be used on a mass scale by individual buyers like using them entirely to build the walls of their homes and buildings, the business of creating these red bricks are ideal for small businesses and artists.

Small brick making businesses and artists can work in conjunction with each other or separately to create these specific bricks. Since there is likely only a limited number of these red bricks that would be ordered, these small companies have an advantage over big businesses.

The Artist

A mold maker or a sculpture can offer to make not only the mold for these red bricks but also to create them. Based on what I have seen in this video:

YouTube Video: Making Bricks with Josh at Mobile Brick Factory in Baltimore

Red bricks can even be made on site in the construction site. All that one needs is the clay mixture for the red brick, the mold for the brick and plenty of sunshine. The artist can even do the job by his lonesome.

I’m not an expert in sculpting, but I have seen sculptors create sculptures using molds. This enables them to duplicate their sculptures in no time at all. I see the same thing being done by a sculptor to specially designed red bricks.

A sculptor may even create a one off red brick for use as a real art piece that may or may not be incorporated in a structure. A sculptor can for example create a simple or elaborate letter and number address of a structure in just one red brick.

Small Brick Making Business

A small company can hire or contract a mold maker or a sculptor to design their relatively mass produced custom designed red bricks. They can then do the actual production of the red bricks themselves.

This kind of arrangement is especially helpful if each party has different skills and resources. The artist or the mold maker utilizes their sculpting or mold making skills while the small brick making company utilizes their skills and resources in manufacturing red bricks.

The arrangement could be the other way around. The mold maker or the sculptor can be the one who is contracting the small brick making business to make red bricks for them. As you can see, the term small brick making business can also apply to the mold maker or sculptor.

As such, making custom designed red bricks could be a good business for a single person mold maker or sculptor without them having to deviate from their artistic passion and skill. Imagine a sculptor not only creating decorative sculptures but also sculptures for the walls of structures.

CONCLUSION

The bland surfaces of red bricks can be an ideal canvas to put logos and designs on. Owners of structures like homes and buildings made out of or partially made out of red bricks can become customers of artists and mold makers who can create custom designed red bricks.

These artists and mold makers can compete with large brick making companies who mass produce cheap but bland bricks. In fact, a single artist or a mold maker can be one man businesses who contract small brick making businesses.
