Making Money with Your Pets

Many people have pets. Pets keep us company and serve us. They also sometimes protect and save us. Pets however come at a cost. Pets need to be fed, groomed and health maintained. There is also the least likeable task of taking care of their waste as well as cleaning after them. You can however offset these costs from your pests by letting them earn for you.

The most obvious way is by making them social media personalities. You can post very cute and lovable pictures of your pet online and hopefully earn money in the process. An article by Business Insider titled People are being paid up to $16,000 for a single picture of their dog on Instagram reported as the title of the article suggested pet owners being paid good money for online pictures of their pets.

You could also make YouTube videos of your pets doing everyday adorable activities. You could also make informational videos of how to take care of your pets. You could also film videos of people especially children playing with their pets or of pets playing with other pets. If your pet is lucky enough maybe it will become famous and land product endorsement deals.

If you are serious enough you can try to get the attention of animal advertising agencies and pet product companies by showing your pet’s media content to them directly. One animal advertising executive remarked that animals make good endorsers because unlike human product endorsers they do not do negatively perceived activities such as drinking alcohol or doing drugs.

You can train your pets to work as actors on movies and tv shows. The dog in the tv show Lassie is world famous and is actually the star of the show. There are people who professionally raise pets to become entertainment actors. If your pets are exotic enough like lizards you do not have to train them. You can make them extras in movie settings like jungles.

Pets can become attractions at festivals and other social gatherings. Tamed pets like dogs, cats, chickens and other relatively small animals even like goats can be petted by children. I have even seen festivals where ponies are petted and rode by children however there is a handler always making sure that the pony stays tame.

This is requires more work and patience but you can groom your pets to participate in pet contests. Not all pet contests pay but they are rather a stepping stone to other pet contests which offers more prestige and even money. The AKC National Championship for example paid $50,000 to its winner in 2017. AKC by the way stands for American Kennel Club .

You can also train your pets to do certain special tasks that can earn you money. You can for example train your dogs to detect drugs and work for drug enforcement agencies however this is quite dangerous for the average pet owner. You can try other lesser but equally rewarding tasks for your dogs like detecting termites and other pests. You can work as a pest controller to earn money.

You can also train your dogs to pull sleds during snow season even in highly urbanised areas. There is a high novelty factor in dogs pulling sleds in urban areas. This is a sight not commonly seen by urbanites. You can for example charge to let children ride in your dog sled and travel along frozen public areas such as parks and parking lots.

If you have enough variety of pets you can setup a mini zoo. This is especially good for small animals like insects as they do not take up much space. You can also setup natural pools and let people look and even swim together with your pet fishes. You can construct a wide cage to house all your pet birds and let people in to look at them openly.

Pets can double as food sources too. You can raise for example chicken, ducks, fishes and other animals used as food right in your own backyard. You can sell chicken and duck eggs or sell the animals themselves as food. Pets can also be an animal food. There are people for example who raise mice as pets and when they become too many sell them as animal food for snake owners.

Lastly you can raise pets and then sell their offsprings as pets for other people. There are for example professional breeders of dogs that buy expensive pairs of dogs and let them breed. After the offsprings have been produced they are sold. The process continues as long as their pet dog continues to produce offsprings.

Conclusion

Although you enjoy the company and the service of your dog do not forget that they cost money to maintain especially if they become sick. Pet surgeries can cost from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars. You should let your pets serve you enough that they earn their keep by also being of service to other people besides you.
