Income from Home Maintenance

I think there is no need to elaborate on the many ways of earning money by offering services related to home construction and home maintenance tasks. House painting, furniture maintenance, carpet vacuuming and cleaning ... etc. are all money earning services being offered to both home and building owners since time immemorial.

There are now even many online job platforms which serve these tasks. We can also add the services related to taking care of the occupants of the house which need servicing or care such as babies, children, the elderly and the sick. We must also not forget that pets are also occupants of many homes so there are services specially designed for them as well.

One should consider these kinds of service jobs as they may pay well. We already know about plumbers and electricians earning good money and still being their own bosses but there are other home service jobs that pay well.

Several years ago in Australia I once got locked out of my own room and got the services of a locksmith. He easily unlocked the door of my room in less than 5 minutes. The amount he charged me for the 5 minute job was almost equivalent to my 8 hours daily pay.

When I interviewed him he told me that he normally gets 4 similar jobs a day plus he is also doing other kinds of home servicing besides being a locksmith. He told me he heavily advertises his services. I was flabbergasted. I felt I was in the wrong job.

Do not however be enticed easily by my story. This does not happen all the time. Being a handy person who is his own boss also carries risks and more demands. Besides doing your service job you also have to market yourself and do your own finances just like any business owner.

Conclusion

It is advisable to be multi-skilled in the home service industry and know your market just like in my previous example to increase your possibility of business success. You lastly must consider working even during your rest days like weekends like my example who works weekends because there are a lot less of his competitors working during those days.
