Make Money from Water
Historically drinking water is taken from wells and rivers and mostly boiled before being drank. Today it is now mostly piped into our homes. Our pipe system however can become dirty or corroded and rivers and other drinking water sources can become dirty as well. Germs, bacterias as well as other toxic substances may contaminate the water we drink from the pipes.
Water Cleanliness is a Big Issue
Modern cities are now so dependent on tap water that even bottled water comes from it. Most people are also dubious with the quality of tap water especially its purity that is why many take extra measures to further purify tap water. There are people who still boil tap water before drinking it and there are still others who use various kinds of water purification systems or do both.
This health issue has not gone away and is a regular occurrence. If you Google for example “water contamination 2020” you would read various and alarming reports of large scale drinking water contamination around the world even in first world countries like the US. That is why at the very least we must use water filters to purify our drinking water to a certain degree.
Having these water contamination news information is handy if you want to sell or endorse water purification systems. This is true especially if you can determine that a certain area or group of people has water contamination issues. You can use these information to tell them that they are in danger of serious health issues and maybe you can assist them with your knowledge and as well with your water purification systems.
Many people have a genuine fear of becoming sick if they drink water straight from the tap. Many have experienced and have heard and seen news of how dirty tap water can be so if you are selling clean water or water cleaning products this should not be considered as Fear Mongering.
The Philippine Model
In the Philippines for example this fear is so widespread that people do not generally use tap water for drinking but rather they buy drinking water from water filtration stations who deliver them in big plastic jerrycans to their homes. This is a regular expense in many Philippine households.
This is big business in the Philippines with some people becoming millionaires (by Philippine standards) by franchising their water filtration station businesses. Many franchisees make their main living from it. I have never seen this kind of business in other countries especially in the US and Australia. This is maybe because the people in these countries trust their tap water source more.
Their main competition is the many water filtration manufacturers who sell smaller and less powerful products. They are gaining ground because from my personal opinion the delivery method and the containers used to store the filtered water by the water filtration station can be unhygienic which people realise soon. They realise they are better off using their own smaller filtration devices.
But these smaller water filtration devices have problems too. The filters needs to be hygienically replaced often and the devices themselves become dirty too. They are also as previously mentioned less powerful at filtering water compared to the bigger industrial type ones. The industrial type ones are however so expensive that most households cannot afford it that is why they risk their health and use the cheaper but less powerful ones.
A Hybrid Product?
One new product and service I can think of is in the area of portable/mobile water filtration service where a powerful industrial type water filtration is rented by households to clean their tap water and any other water they want cleaned. This has the advantage of providing high quality water at lesser price and maintenance to the household.
Water Carting
Another business one can make money off water is by carting water. There are many parts of the world where water especially clean water is in such short supply or hard to access that people pay other people to bring them water. There are many places in Africa for example where water carting is a regular job for many able bodied men.
An estimated 55 million people are affected by drought globally each year. This not only happens in very dry developing countries but in first world countries such as Australia where water carting is a regulated business and where special water carrying trucks are used.
Conclusion
Since we cannot create water the best way to earn money is by delivering clean water to buyers as efficiently as possible. Water is a diminishing resource because of the exponential increase in global population and therefore water demand. Many are now also investing in water capture facilities rather than let water sink underground which is like losing money.
