The New Girl
Part 1: The Best Of Friends
Mark and Anthony were the best of friends even when they were still kids. Mark comes from a poor family while Anthony comes from a very rich family. When they grew up, Mark married while Anthony became a playboy.
He would have a steady supply of girlfriends of which some would come simultaneously at the same time. When Anthony have a problem with having multiple girlfriends at the same time, he would usually ask Mark to help him out.
Like a true friend, Mark would cover up for his friend and sort out the girlfriend mess that Anthony has gotten himself into. In return for Mark’s help and friendship, Anthony gave Mark financial rewards including a good place in his company.
Mark knew that Anthony would always be a womanizer. Even when they had become middle-aged men already, Mark was still sorting out the women problems that Anthony is still getting into. It seems that Anthony has no desire of ever settling down.
Part 2: The Girl
Lately, Mark noticed that Anthony has been keeping a low profile when it comes to women. He is not used to Anthony not having a call from the latest woman he jilted. Mark knew that there was a change in Anthony.
Mark smiled as he went into Anthony’s office, “You’ve been awfully silent lately. You seem so different now.”
“You noticed?”, asked Anthony, “Isn’t it obvious?”
Mark scratched his head, “What’s obvious, Anthony? I can’t see anything that changed about you.”
“I’m a changed man,” said Anthony, “I finally met the girl of my dreams.”
“Really? You’ve met the girl of your dreams?”, asked Mark, “Isn’t this what you said with your last girlfriend?”
“This one’s different,” said Anthony, “she may be the girl I get to marry.”
“She’s just one of your flings,” said Mark as he laughed, “you’ll dispose of her in no time at all.”
“No, this girl is different, Mark,” said Anthony, “she a decent kind of girl. The type that you don’t leave.”
Part 3: How It Usually Goes
“Let me remind you what usually happens to you,” said Mark as he sighed, “you meet a girl, you fall in love with her for a while and then you get tired of her. You then ask me to make an excuse to the girl so that you could leave her.”
Anthony frowned, “That was before, Mark. Now I don’t want your help. I love this girl and I intend to marry her. We may have a large age gap, but I still want to marry her. She said she wants to marry me as well.”
“Haven’t we been through this a million times?”, asked Mark in a mocking tone, “You want to marry every beautiful girl you meet and they want to marry you because you are rich and comes from an influential family.”
“But this girl is not like that,” said Anthony, “she says she wants to marry me for who I am and not because I am rich and come from an influential family.”
“And you believe her?”, asked Mark, “Since when did you become so gullible?”
Part 4: Changing Minds
“Let me tell you the real situation,” said Mark, “this girl told you that she would marry you for who you are and not because you are rich and come from an influential family, right?”
“Yes,” said Anthony.
“But you already told her beforehand that you are rich and come from an influential family,” said Mark, “this girl already knows that you are rich even before you told her. She’s just after your money, Anthony.”
“I refuse to believe what you’re saying, Mark.”
“How old is this girl, Anthony?”, asked Mark.
“She’s twenty-five years old.”
“Do you really believe that a twenty-five year old girl would want to marry a man whose twice her age,” said Mark, “Anthony, do you realize that this girl is about the age of your daughter if you had one.”
“But she says that our age gap doesn’t matter,” said Anthony, “she even went to bed with me to prove that she loves me.”
“She’s a slut for sleeping with you even though she knows you are twice her age,” said Mark.
Mark looked directly at Anthony, “If this woman isn’t a gold digger, why did she sleep with you? If she’s not a gold digger, she’s a slut.”
Part 5: Hatred
“You really think this girl is a slut and a gold digger?”, asked Anthony.
“I’m positive. She’s just like almost all your previous girlfriends,” said Mark, “they’re only after your money and connections and nothing else.”
“Come to think of it, I felt a bit nervous when she said she would marry me,” said Anthony as he sighed, “and you have never been wrong, Mark, about the women in my life. They’re all just after my money.”
“It’s good to know that you’ve become a smart man once again,” said Mark, “for a minute there I thought that some slut have managed to trick you with her fake affections.”
“Yeah, for a minute there I thought I was in love,” said Anthony as he laughed.
“You’ll find a good woman soon,” said Mark, “but not this woman who slept with you after knowing that you are rich and come from an influential family.”
“I hate this woman now,” said Anthony, “maybe it’s time I break up with her and find a new girl.”
Part 6: The Picture
“So Anthony the lady killer is on the prowl again,” said Mark as he laughed, “maybe your next girlfriend would be a decent girl.”
“Too bad that this girl is really beautiful and looks very kind and decent,” said Anthony.
“She must really be attractive if you wanted to marry her before,” said Mark, “I hardly see you falling for a woman so much that you wanted to marry them.”
“Wanna see her picture, Mark?”, said Anthony.
“Yeah, why not?”, said Mark, “I wanna see the picture of the girl who attracted my friend so much that he wanted to marry her.”
“Sure, here’s her picture,” said Anthony.
Mark fell silent as he saw the picture of his daughter.
Anthony felt the sudden silence of Mark, “What’s wrong, Mark? Are you also attracted by this beautiful slut?”
